Target Information
CD73 (Ecto-5'-nucleotidase, 5'-ribonucleotide phosphohydrolase) catalyzes the conversion at neutral pH of purine 5'-mononucleotides to nucleosides, with AMP as the preferred substrate.
CD73 forms a dimer of two identical 70 kDa subunits bound externally to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl phosphatidyl inositol linkage.
It serves as a marker of lymphocyte differentiation, and its deficiency is associated with various immunodeficiency diseases.
Other forms of 5'-nucleotidase exist in the cytoplasm and lysosomes, distinguishable by substrate affinities, magnesium ion requirement, ATP activation, and phosphate inhibition.
The CD73 gene is located on chromosome 6q14–q21. Defects in this gene can lead to joint and arterial calcification and intestinal tuberculosis.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD73 have been identified.
