Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. F-box proteins are one of the subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex SCFs, functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
They are divided into three classes: Fbws (WD-40 domains), Fbls (leucine-rich repeats), and Fbxs (various interaction modules or no recognizable motifs).
The encoded protein belongs to the Fbxs class and contains an F-box domain. It is highly expressed during muscle atrophy, and mice deficient in this gene show resistance to atrophy. Therefore, this protein is a potential drug target for muscle atrophy treatment.
Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding isoforms of different sizes.
