Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid F-box motif. F-box proteins are part of the SCF ubiquitin ligase complex, involved in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. They are classified into three groups:
- Fbws: contain WD-40 domains
- Fbls: contain leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: contain various interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The encoded protein belongs to the Fbxs class and includes an F-box domain. It is highly expressed during muscle atrophy, and mice deficient in this gene show resistance to atrophy. Therefore, this protein is a potential drug target for muscle atrophy treatment. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
