Product Specific Information
In direct ELISAs, no cross-reactivity with recombinant human Integrin beta 1 or recombinant mouse Integrin alpha 5 is observed.
Target Information
CD18 integrin beta 2 subunit is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes. CD18 combines with integrin molecules CD11a–c to form heterodimers at the cell surface, participating in cell adhesion and signaling.
These heterodimers include:
- αLβ2 (CD11a/CD18, LFA-1)
- αMβ2 (CD11b/CD18, Mac-1, CR3)
- αXβ2 (CD11c/CD18)
- αDβ2 (CD11d/CD18)
These integrins are essential for proper leukocyte migration and intercellular contact.
Defects in CD18 expression can lead to leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1) or psoriasiform skin disease. CD18 also mediates cytolysis induced by Mannheimia haemolytica leukotoxin. Two transcript variants encoding the CD18 protein have been identified.
