The MA5-11575 immunogen is a synthetic peptide encoding a region near the C-terminal end of the synaptophysin protein.


Target Information

Synaptophysin is a calcium-binding and integral membrane glycoprotein present in presynaptic vesicles in almost all neurons.
It has four transmembrane domains and forms a complex with dynamin at high calcium concentrations, suggesting an involvement in synaptic vesicle endocytosis.
Synaptophysin is also involved in the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity.
It is widely used as a marker for nerve terminals and for differentiating neuroendocrine tumors.
Mutations in the gene can result in X-linked mental retardation (MRX96).
