Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MRPS5 protein.

Target Information

Mitochondrial ribosomes consist of a large 39S subunit and a small 28S subunit, both composed of multiple mitochondrial ribosomal proteins (MRPs) encoded by nuclear genes. These proteins are essential for mitochondrial protein synthesis.
MRP-S5 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S5), also known as S5mt, is a 430-amino-acid mitochondrial protein belonging to the ribosomal protein S5P family. It is a component of the 28S subunit, contains one S5 DRBM domain, and exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms.
The gene encoding MRP-S5 is located on human chromosome 2, which spans approximately 237 million bases, includes over 1,400 genes, and represents about 8% of the human genome. Genetic disorders associated with chromosome 2 include Harlequin ichthyosis, sitosterolemia, and Alstrom syndrome.
