The antibody detects endogenous levels of total MRPL42 protein.
Target Information
MRPL42 is a mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal protein encoded by nuclear genes, involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly among species, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. The MRPL42 gene encodes a protein found in both the 28S and 39S subunits. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, and pseudogenes corresponding to this gene are found on chromosomes 4q, 6p, 6q, 7p, and 15q.
