Thromboxane synthase는 cytochrome P450 superfamily에 속하는 효소로, 약물 대사 및 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드, 지질 합성에 관여하는 monooxygenase 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 단백질은 prostaglandin H2를 thromboxane A2로 전환시키며, 이는 강력한 혈관수축제이자 혈소판 응집 유도제입니다. 혈액응고, 심혈관 질환, 뇌졸중 등 다양한 병리학적 과정에서 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한, 여러 가지 alternative splicing isoform이 존재합니다.
