Target Information
The BAF57 protein is a component of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SWI/SNF, essential for transcriptional activation of genes repressed by chromatin. It binds to 4-way junction DNA, mimicking DNA topology at the nucleosome entry/exit. The protein contains a DNA-binding HMG domain; however, disruption of this domain does not abolish DNA-binding or nucleosome-displacement activity. Unlike most SWI/SNF complex proteins, BAF57 has no yeast counterpart.
