Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Progesterone Receptor only when phosphorylated at Ser190.

Target Information

The progesterone receptor (PR) is a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. PR mediates the physiological effects of progesterone, crucial for reproductive processes including pregnancy establishment and maintenance.
PR exists as two forms: Form A (94 kDa) and Form B (120 kDa), generated by alternative translation initiation sites.

  • PR-B: Transcriptionally active form, responsible for gene activation related to endometrial maintenance and ovulation inhibition.
  • PR-A: Lacks 165 amino acids at the N-terminus, exposing a 140 amino acid inhibitory domain that represses steroid hormone transcriptional activity.

In its inactive state, PgR forms a multiprotein complex with heat shock proteins and immunophilins. Upon progesterone binding, conformational changes enable receptor dimerization and binding to progesterone response elements (PRE), activating transcription.
Null mutation in the PGR gene results in reproductive abnormalities.
