Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope involving residues 534–546 in cysteine-rich repeat 3 of the CD18 antigen (integrin beta2 subunit; beta2 integrin). CD18 is a 90–95 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes.
It does not cross-react with canine.

Target Information

CD18 (integrin beta 2 subunit) is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes. It forms heterodimers with CD11 molecules (CD11a–d) to constitute leukocyte (beta2) integrins:

  • αLβ2 (CD11a/CD18, LFA-1)
  • αMβ2 (CD11b/CD18, Mac-1, CR3)
  • αXβ2 (CD11c/CD18)
  • αDβ2 (CD11d/CD18)

These integrins are essential for leukocyte adhesion and migration. Absence or reduction of CD18 expression can lead to leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1) or psoriasiform skin disease. CD18 also mediates leukotoxin-induced cytolysis by Mannheimia haemolytica. Two transcript variants encoding CD18 protein have been identified.
