Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD29 (integrin beta1 chain), a 130 kDa single-chain type I glycoprotein expressed as a heterodimer (non-covalently associated with integrin alpha subunits 1–6).
CD29 is broadly expressed on hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells including leukocytes, platelets, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, epithelial cells, and mast cells.
This antibody does not cross-react with mouse.


Target Information

ITGB1 (Integrin Subunit Beta 1, CD29) is a 110 kDa cell surface glycoprotein widely expressed by various cell types, including all leukocytes.
ITGB1 forms non-covalent heterodimers with at least six different alpha chains (α1–α6), determining the binding properties of β1 (VLA) integrins.
It functions as a cell adhesion molecule on platelets and as the common β subunit of very late activation antigens (VLAs).

Decreased ITGB1 expression correlates with multidrug resistance in tumor cells. It is up-regulated in leukocytes during migration and plays a key role in immune cell trafficking from blood to tissues.
ITGB1 also regulates tissue damage and disease symptoms in inflammatory bowel disease. Through an ITGB1-dependent mechanism, fibronectin and type I collagen enhance cytokine secretion of human airway smooth muscle in response to IL-1β.

There are two major isoforms of integrin β1: β1A and β1D, which differ by 13 amino acids. β1A is present in all tissues except cardiac and skeletal muscle, where β1D is expressed.
