This antibody reacts with CD16⁺ granulocytes and can be used for mapping CD16-158V/F polymorphism on NK cells, as it requires the presence of valine (V) at amino acid position 158.
Target Information
CD16 encodes a receptor that recognizes the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and is involved in the clearance of immune complexes, antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), and modulation of viral infection responses.
The FCGR3A gene shares high similarity with FCGR3B, located nearby on chromosome 1.
- FCGR3A: Expressed on NK cells, membrane-anchored via a transmembrane peptide
- FCGR3B: Expressed on polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN), anchored via a phosphatidylinositol (PI) linkage
Mutations in FCGR3A are associated with:
- Immunodeficiency 20
- Susceptibility to recurrent viral infections
- Systemic lupus erythematosus
- Alloimmune neonatal neutropenia
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
