Target Information
CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase that forms an active holoenzyme complex with Cyclin T1, playing a key role in regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. It regulates cytokine-inducible transcription networks and promotes RNA synthesis in genetic programs for cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis.
The CDK9/cyclin-K complex also has kinase activity towards CTD of RNAPII and can substitute for CDK9/cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 causes cardiac myocyte enlargement, leading to cardiac hypertrophy and predisposition to heart failure.
