Target Information

HSPB1 (heat shock protein beta-1 or HSP27) is a small heat shock protein that functions as a molecular chaperone, maintaining denatured proteins in a folding-competent state. It plays a crucial role in stress resistance and actin organization. Through its chaperone activity, HSP27 regulates phosphorylation and axonal transport of neurofilament proteins. Mutations in the HSPB1 gene can result in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2F and distal hereditary motor neuronopathy type 2B.
