Target Information
Kcnt2 calcium (Ca2+)-activated potassium channels (KCa) are a group of 6/7-transmembrane ion channels that selectively transport K⁺ ions across biological membranes. KCa channels are broadly classified into three subtypes: SK, IK, and BK channels (small, intermediate, and big conductance).
Kcnt2 is an outward rectifying potassium channel that produces rapidly activating outward rectifier K⁺ currents. It is activated by high intracellular sodium and chloride levels and inhibited by ATP as well as inhalation anesthetics such as isoflurane. Functionally, Kcnt2 activity is suppressed upon stimulation of G-protein coupled receptors such as CHRM1 and GRIA1.
