Product Specific Information
Mouse anti-Bovine interferon-γ antibody, clone 7B6 recognizes both native and recombinant bovine IFN-γ.
Bovine interferon-γ is a 166 amino acid, approximately 18 kDa secreted cytokine with antiviral activity.
Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor and immune interferon produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens, mitogens, Staphylococcus enterotoxin B, phytohemaglutanin, and other cytokines.
It is a dimeric protein consisting of two 146 amino acid subunits (~45 kDa as a homodimer). On SDS-PAGE, IFN gamma appears as 25, 20, and 15.5 kDa bands due to differential glycosylation.
Biological activities of IFN gamma include:
- Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
- Induction of class I and II MHC
- Macrophage activation
- Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
IFN gamma acts via binding to IFN gamma receptor I and II, activating the JAK-STAT pathway. It shows ~40% sequence homology between human and mouse IFN gamma, but no cross-reactivity.
Expression is upregulated by IL2, FGF basic, and EGF, and downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN.
Mutations in the IFN gamma gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
