Product Specific Information
Mouse anti-Bovine IFN gamma antibody, clone CC302, recognizes bovine interferon-gamma — a 143 amino acid cytokine with potent activating, antiviral, and antiproliferative properties. It is produced as a pro-peptide with an additional 23 amino acid N-terminal signal peptide sequence, having a molecular weight of approximately 20 kDa.
Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor and immune interferon produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens, mitogens, and other cytokines.
It is a dimeric glycoprotein (~45 kDa) composed of two 146 amino acid subunits and appears on SDS-PAGE as 25, 20, and minor 15.5 kDa bands due to differential glycosylation.
Functions include:
- Antiviral activity
- Tumor antiproliferative activity
- Induction of class I and II MHC
- Macrophage activation
- Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
IFN gamma acts via IFN gamma receptor I and II, activating the JAK-STAT pathway. It shows no homology with IFN alpha or beta but ~40% sequence homology with mouse IFN gamma.
Expression is upregulated by IL2, FGF basic, EGF and downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN. Mutations in the IFN gamma gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
