Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, regulating cell growth and differentiation. It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, and calcium influx. MEK1 activation occurs via phosphorylation at serine 218 and 222 residues by Raf1. It plays roles in stress response, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in this gene are associated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
