Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Globins are a superfamily of gas-binding heme proteins found in bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and animals. They play roles in binding, transport, scavenging, detoxification, and sensing of oxygen, nitric oxide, and carbon monoxide.
Neuroglobin (NGB) is a hexacoordinate hemoglobin predominantly expressed in the vertebrate brain, possibly enhancing oxygen supply to neural components. It has a high affinity for oxygen, and its expression in cerebral neurons suggests a role in neuronal responses to hypoxia or ischemia. In vitro studies show that neuronal hypoxia elevates neuroglobin levels, promoting neuronal survival. The human neuroglobin gene is located on chromosome 14q24 and encodes a 151 amino acid protein.
