Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen, inducing fever in autoimmune diseases or infections. IL-6 is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and activates transcriptional inflammatory responses via the IL-6 receptor alpha.
Elevated IL-6 levels are associated with diseases such as diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 infection).
