Antibody detects endogenous levels of MITF only when phosphorylated at Serine 180.


Target Information

Mi is a basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (b-HLH-ZIP) transcription factor involved in pigmentation, mast cell, and bone development.
Mutations in Mi cause Waardenburg Syndrome type II in humans. In mice, this leads to loss of pigmented cells in the skin, eye, and inner ear, as well as osteopetrosis and defects in natural killer and mast cells.
Two isoforms of Mi exist, differing by 66 amino acids at the N-terminus. Shorter forms are expressed in melanocytes (52–56 kDa), while longer forms (60–70 kDa) appear in osteoclasts, B16 melanoma cells, mast cells, and heart tissue.
