Target Information
Action potentials in vertebrate neurons are followed by an afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that may persist for several seconds and influence neuronal firing patterns. Each AHP component is mediated by distinct calcium-activated potassium channels.
KCNN2 encodes a protein that contributes to the slow component of synaptic AHP, forming a voltage-independent calcium-activated channel with three calmodulin-binding subunits.
This gene belongs to the KCNN family of potassium channel genes. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
