SAGA (Spt-Ada-Gcn5 histone acetyltransferase complex)는 Gcn5p를 촉매 서브유닛으로 가지는 히스톤 아세틸화 효소 복합체로, 기본 전사 인자 TFIID와 기능적으로 유사하지만 다른 역할을 수행합니다.
SAGA는 Ada 단백질군(5종), TBP 관련 단백질군(4종), TAF 단백질군(5종, TFIID에도 포함), 기타 단백질군(6종 이상)으로 구성된 대형 복합체입니다.
그 주요 기능은 히스톤의 화학적 변형, 전사 조절 인자와의 상호작용을 통한 DNA 결합, TBP를 통한 전사 개시 조절 등입니다.
Gcn5p는 히스톤 아세틸화 활성을 가지며, budding yeast의 경우 439개의 아미노산으로 구성되어 있습니다.
