Target Information
Glycophorin C (GYPC) is an integral membrane glycoprotein found on human erythrocytes. It plays a key role in maintaining red cell mechanical stability. Mutations in GYPC give rise to several phenotypes, including Gerbich and Yus (due to exon deletions), and Webb and Duch (due to point mutations). Glycophorin C shows little homology with glycophorins A and B.
