Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a common structure of two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa, lambda; MW 22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda chains consist of variable and constant regions, distinguished by antigenic properties of the constant region.
The kappa to lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies to kappa light chain are useful in identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.
Clonality demonstration in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
