Product Specific Information

The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by most thymocytes, a subset of mature T-helper cells, and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 is a receptor for HIV. The OKT4 antibody recognizes a different epitope than RPA-T4, and these antibodies do not cross-block each other.

  • Applications Tested: Pre-diluted and tested by flow cytometry on normal human peripheral blood cells at 5 µL/test
  • Recommended Cell Count: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test

Brilliant Violet™ 650 (BV650) emits at 649 nm and is suitable for cytometers equipped with a violet (405 nm) laser. Ensure instrument compatibility.

When using multiple polymer dye-conjugated antibodies (Super Bright, Brilliant Violet™, Brilliant Ultra Violet™), use Super Bright Complete Staining Buffer (SB-4401-42) or Brilliant Stain Buffer™ (00-4409-75) to minimize non-specific interactions.

Light Sensitivity: Protect from light to prevent photo-induced oxidation.
Fixation: Samples may be stored in IC Fixation Buffer (00-8222-49) or 1-step Fix/Lyse Solution (00-5333-54) for up to 3 days at 4°C in the dark with minimal signal loss.
Compatibility: BV650 is not compatible with methanol-based fixation.

Target Information

CD4 is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T-helper lymphocytes, and also found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is observed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. It plays a critical role in T-cell activation via association with the TCR complex and tyrosine kinase Lck. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
