Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. These receptors are involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in synaptic transmission efficiency, which is essential for memory and learning. NMDAR2B plays a key role in neuronal development and is implicated in neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. Phosphorylation at Tyr1472 may enhance NMDAR expression at the synapse, contributing to synaptic plasticity. Overexpression of NR2B is associated with improved learning and memory, while reduced expression is seen in aged, memory-impaired animals.
