Target Information
NMDAR1 encodes a protein that is a critical subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors, members of the glutamate receptor channel superfamily. These receptors are heteromeric complexes forming ligand-gated ion channels. The subunits play a key role in synaptic plasticity, which is believed to underlie memory and learning.
Cell-specific factors may control expression of different isoforms, contributing to functional diversity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
