The Spike (S) protein is critical for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development.
The receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) of the Spike protein binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, showing higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD.
S1 subunit contains the RBD that specifically interacts with ACE2 on target cells.
