A 1:1,000 dilution of MA5-27586 was sufficient for detection of Metallothionein in 1 µg of purified Pseudomonas aeruginosa Metallothionein (PmtA)-GST tagged protein by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects a 36 kDa band corresponding to Pseudomonas aeruginosa Metallothionein.

Target Information

This gene is a member of the metallothionein family of genes. Proteins encoded by this gene family are low in molecular weight, cysteine-rich, lack aromatic residues, and bind divalent heavy metal ions. The conserved cysteine residues coordinate metal ions using mercaptide linkages. These proteins act as antioxidants, protect against hydroxyl free radicals, are important in homeostatic control of metal in the cell, and play a role in detoxification of heavy metals.

Disruption of two metallothionein genes in mice resulted in defects in protection against heavy metals, oxidative stress, immune reactions, and carcinogens, and displayed obesity. MT1A (Metallothionein 1A) is a protein-coding gene. Diseases associated with MT1A include Menkes Disease and Deficiency Anemia.
