Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors. The E2F family plays a crucial role in controlling the cell cycle and the action of tumor suppressor proteins. It is also targeted by transforming proteins of small DNA tumor viruses.
E2F proteins contain conserved domains such as:
- DNA binding domain
- Dimerization domain (interacts with DP proteins)
- Transactivation domain (acidic amino acids enriched)
- Tumor suppressor protein association domain
Additionally, E2F1, E2F2, and E2F3 have a cyclin binding domain.
E2F3 binds specifically to retinoblastoma protein (pRB) in a cell-cycle dependent manner.
