Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors. The E2F family plays a crucial role in the control of the cell cycle and the action of tumor suppressor proteins. It is also a target of transforming proteins of small DNA tumor viruses.
E2F proteins contain several evolutionarily conserved domains, including a DNA binding domain, a dimerization domain for interaction with DP proteins, a transactivation domain rich in acidic amino acids, and a tumor suppressor protein association domain embedded within the transactivation domain.
E2F3, along with E2F1 and E2F2, has an additional cyclin binding domain and binds specifically to the retinoblastoma protein (pRB) in a cell-cycle dependent manner.
