Target Information
PDGFRA (Platelet Derived Growth Factor Receptor, alpha) is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The specific growth factor bound to a receptor monomer determines whether the functional receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer, composed of both PDGFRA and PDGFRB polypeptides.
Studies in knockout mice indicate that PDGFRA is essential for kidney development, as heterozygous mice show defective kidney phenotypes while homozygosity is lethal.
