Cell proliferation is controlled at specific stages of the cell cycle by distinct protein kinase complexes. These complexes consist of a catalytic subunit associating with a specific regulatory subunit to form the active kinase. Cyclins, including A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, K, L, T and related proteins such as Dbf4, serve as regulatory subunits of these kinase complexes. Their availability regulates the activation of kinase complexes throughout the cell cycle. Cyclin B3 (CCNB3 or CYCB3) is a 1,395 amino acid nuclear protein belonging to the cyclin family. It is highly expressed in testis and plays an important role in early meiotic prophase I during the meiotic cell cycle. Three isoforms of Cyclin B3 exist due to alternative splicing.
