Target Information
The Class II PI3 kinases, including PIK3C2B, phosphorylate the 3 position of PI or PI4P. Although less studied than class I PI3 kinases, class II enzymes are linked to receptor-mediated cellular processes such as insulin signaling, neuronal survival, and growth factor signaling.
Protein kinases transfer phosphate groups from ATP to substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction in eukaryotic cells. They regulate cellular metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell movement, apoptosis, and differentiation. With over 500 gene products, the protein kinase family is one of the largest in eukaryotes, classified into eight major groups based on catalytic domain sequences.
