Target Information

ATP6V1C2 encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme responsible for acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles.
V-ATPase-dependent acidification is essential for:

• Protein sorting
• Zymogen activation
• Receptor-mediated endocytosis
• Synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation

The enzyme comprises a cytosolic V1 domain and a transmembrane V0 domain.
The V1 domain includes three A, three B, two G, and one each of C, D, E, F, and H subunits, containing the ATP catalytic site.
This gene produces alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding different C subunit isoforms of the V1 domain.
