SETD7 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates Lys-4 of histone H3.
H3 Lys-4 methylation represents a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation.
It plays a central role in the transcriptional activation of genes such as collagenase or insulin.
Target Information
SETD7 is a histone methyltransferase that monomethylates Lys-4 of histone H3, serving as an epigenetic marker for transcriptional activation.
It plays a key role in activating genes like collagenase and insulin, and is recruited by IPF1/PDX-1 to the insulin promoter.
SETD7 also methylates non-histone proteins such as p53/TP53, TAF10, and possibly TAF7, enhancing their transcriptional activities.
Monomethylation of Lys-189 in TAF10 increases its affinity for RNA polymerase II, and Lys-372 methylation of p53 stabilizes and activates p53-mediated transcription.
