Target Information

PIK3CG (p110 gamma) is the only class IB phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase family member. It generates the second messenger PIP2 and primarily signals downstream of GPCRs, unlike class IA enzymes that signal via receptor tyrosine kinases.
This enzyme phosphorylates phosphoinositides on the 3-hydroxyl group of the inositol ring and modulates extracellular signals, including those from E-cadherin-mediated cell-cell adhesion, crucial for epithelial integrity.
It also plays a role in regulating NK cell cytotoxicity. The gene is located in a commonly deleted region of chromosome 7 associated with myeloid leukemias.
