Target Information
The HSP70 family is a group of highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat. Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible in all organisms, constitutively expressed in primate cells.
- HSP72: Induced exclusively under stress conditions.
- HSC70: A 72 kDa constitutively expressed protein involved in uncoating clathrin-coated vesicles.
- GRP78 (BiP): A 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum.
- p75 (HSP75): A mitochondrial 75 kDa protein.
HSC70 (also known as HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73) is constitutively expressed and slightly heat-inducible. It binds to clathrin light chains to promote vesicle uncoating and associates with the cytoskeleton to facilitate rearrangements. HSC70 also stimulates lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins and modulates aggregation and folding of mitochondrial precursor proteins in vitro.
