Target Information
Voltage-gated K⁺ channels in the plasma membrane control the repolarization and frequency of action potentials in neurons, muscles, and other excitable cells.
The KV gene family encodes more than 30 proteins forming subunits of K⁺ channels. These subunits differ in gating, permeation, subcellular distribution, and expression.
Functional KV channels assemble as tetramers of pore-forming alpha subunits (KV1, KV2, KV3, KV4, KV9) and accessory subunits that influence gating properties.
KV3.2 is a multipass membrane protein regulating voltage-dependent K⁺ permeability of excitable membranes. Its tail region may affect channel targeting and regulation.
