Target Information
SENP8 (Cysteine protease FKSG8; DEN1; FKSG8; HsT17512; NEDP1; PRSC2; SUMO/sentrin specific protease family member 8) is a novel cysteine protease belonging to the ULP family of deubiquitinases. Members of this family have a C-terminal catalytic domain and N-terminal extensions that determine substrate specificity.
SENP8, a 24 kDa protein, plays a major role in regulating the NEDD8 pathway by processing preNEDD8 to its mature form and deconjugating NEDD8 from substrates such as Cullins and p53. It helps prevent accumulation of hyper-neddylated cullins and maintains mono-neddylated cullin levels, thereby enhancing ubiquitination efficiency by SCF ubiquitin ligases.
