Product Specific Information

The 1F10 antibody specifically binds to human Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF), a cytokine primarily produced by activated T lymphocytes and macrophages. LIF is a variably glycosylated 180 amino acid protein with an apparent molecular weight between 35 and 67 kDa depending on its source and glycosylation. The human LIF gene is located on chromosome 22 and is highly conserved between species.

LIF exhibits pleiotropic functions across various biological systems, including:

  • Supporting growth and inhibiting differentiation of normal embryonic stem cells
  • Stimulating production of acute-phase proteins by hepatocytes

Target Information

Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF) is a 20 kDa protein belonging to the IL-6 receptor family. It binds to a heterodimeric membrane receptor composed of a LIF-specific subunit (gp190 or LIFR) and gp130, which is shared among IL-6 family members. LIF expression occurs in tissues such as thymus, lung, and neuronal tissue and can be up-regulated by cytokines like TNFα and IL-17.

Elevated LIF levels are associated with conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, neural injury, systemic inflammation, and tuberculosis. LIF is best known for its ability to inhibit embryonic stem cell differentiation and promote stem cell self-renewal. Human and mouse LIF share 79% sequence homology and exhibit cross-species activity, though stem cell differentiation inhibition is mouse-specific.
