Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
PEDF (Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor) is a noninhibitory serpin with neurotrophic, anti-angiogenic, and anti-tumorigenic properties. It is a 50 kDa glycoprotein produced and secreted in many tissues throughout the body. PEDF induces apoptosis in proliferating endothelial cells, inhibiting angiogenic factors such as VEGF and FGF-2. It also provides neuroprotective effects by suppressing neuronal apoptosis induced by oxidative stress or neurotoxins.
PEDF binds with high affinity to its receptor PEDF-R, a lipase-linked cell membrane receptor, which mediates its signaling mechanisms. The multifunctional nature of PEDF makes it a potential therapeutic candidate for vascular-related neurodegenerative diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), as well as various angiogenesis-related cancers.
