Target Information
Isoform 1 functions as an extracellular chaperone that prevents aggregation of nonnative proteins and stress-induced aggregation of blood plasma proteins. It inhibits amyloid fibril formation by several aggregation-prone proteins and maintains partially unfolded proteins for refolding by other chaperones. Secreted isoform 1 protects cells from apoptosis and complement-mediated cytolysis. Intracellular isoforms promote ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of target proteins, modulate NF-kappa-B activity, and regulate apoptosis and cell proliferation.
