Target Information
GCNT7 is a 430 amino acid glycosyltransferase localized to the Golgi apparatus. Members of this family include GCNT1, GCNT2, GCNT3, GCNT4, and GCNT6.
GCNT1 plays a regulatory role in mucin-type O-glycan biosynthesis, which serves as ligands in cell adhesion. In leukocytes, GCNT1 regulates synthesis of core 2 O-glycans carrying sialyl-Lewis x (sLex) oligosaccharides that enable high affinity binding to Selectin proteins.
Downregulation of Selectin ligand expression inhibits tissue infiltration, making glycosyltransferase 14 family members potential drug targets for inflammatory disorders and other pathologies involving Selectin proteins.
