Target Information

This gene encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme that mediates acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles.
V-ATPase-dependent organelle acidification is essential for processes such as:

  • Protein sorting
  • Zymogen activation
  • Receptor-mediated endocytosis
  • Synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation

The enzyme comprises:

  • V1 domain: Three A and three B subunits, two G subunits, and C, D, E, F, and H subunits (contains the ATP catalytic site)
  • V0 domain: Five subunits (a, c, c′, c″, and d)

Multiple isoforms of V1 and V0 subunits are encoded by distinct genes or alternative splicing.
This protein represents one of two V1 domain A subunit isoforms and is expressed in all tissues.
Transcript variants derived from alternative polyadenylation exist.
