Product Specific Information

Description:
The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by most thymocytes, mature T-helper cells, and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 acts as a receptor for HIV. The OKT4 antibody recognizes a distinct epitope from RPA-T4 and does not cross-block its binding.

Applications Reported:

• Flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:

• Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometry of normal human peripheral blood cells.
• Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test (100 µL final volume, 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T-helper lymphocytes, and also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
Tissue expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and specific regions of brain and gut.
CD4 participates in T-cell activation through association with TCR and Lck kinase, and may mediate neuronal damage in infectious or immune-mediated CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
