Target Information
The Rhomboid family of proteins comprises several widely conserved polytopic membrane serine proteases involved in growth and development.
RHBDD3 was first identified as a novel pituitary tumor apoptosis gene (PTAG) with reduced expression in certain pituitary adenomas.
Overexpression of RHBDD3 in AtT20 cells increased apoptotic activity and caspase activation in response to bromocriptine, suggesting that reactivation of RHBDD3 in tumors may have therapeutic potential.
Further studies showed reduced RHBDD3 expression in several primary colorectal tumors, indicating that loss of RHBDD3 contributes to diminished apoptotic response and may predispose cells to malignant transformation.
