Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family associated with cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx includes six members classified as typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx.
Except for Prx VI (1-Cys subgroup), the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes have thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as a reducing system.
Mammalian Prxs are 20–30 kDa and vary in subcellular localization:
- Prx I, II, VI: cytosol
- Prx III: mitochondria
- Prx IV: ER and secretion
- Prx V: peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol
